| The Forge Recycling Centre, Stourport Road, Kidderminster . . . |
 |
Following Lawrence's purchase of The Forge, Stourport Road, this is to be
converted into the largest, state-of-the-art, covered recycling centre in Europe.
The existing buildings on the 16 acre site will be renovated to create an indoor
space for cleaning and sorting waste. The centre will produce valuable
materials including metals, plastics, sand and stone. |
 |
Central to the plans are the Environmental and Transport Assessments that
have been carried out to give a clear picture as to the suitability of the
site. These cover a great range of subjects, from traffic and noise levels
to landscape character and water flows. The results from these are, says
director David Lawrence, most encouraging: |
 |
"Our proposals conform well to Wyre Forest plans and appear to
do so with minimal environmental impact. In fact, bearing in mind that those
plans include objectives such as, for example, recycling waste as near to
its place of origin as possible within buildings on existing industrial
estates, the assessments carried out have encouraged our belief that this
site is ideal for a local recycling centre." |
 |
The Forge Recycling Centre is expected to be up and running within
approximately twelve months, at which time it will need a staff of at least 100,
the great majority of these posts being new jobs. The planning application
submitted includes provision for a viewing platform allowing visitors,
including school parties, to see the transformation of discarded waste into
useful, valuable materials. |
